Accompanying the Dying: Family and Friends Edition.

From the desk of Deanna Cochran, RN, Founder of CareDoula® Education.
"When someone we care about is living their last months, weeks, days and hours, life takes on an undeniable new quality indeed.
One thing is time may feel more precious; each moment is unavoidably defined by the acute awareness that we may only have a brief time left with our person. There is no other time quite like this one to prove the reality of only having this one now moment.
I was told long ago by a retired minister whose wife had died 2 years previous to our work together that I should create a family edition of my End-of-Life Doula Certificate Program (Certified CareDoula®), so I did.
And here it is for you. May it provide the peace that it has for 1000s of people around the world.
My hope is each one of us truly knows we accompanied our person the best we could in the moment, to love and care for them. Hindsight is 20/20, so no fair looking back and saying, '...I should have known...'
We show up, we do our best with what we have, we love and we give more than we ever thought we could. This is our legacy as one who accompanies the dying."

Some Love Notes From Past Students and Clients
"I hit the jackpot when I choose you to learn from - this- what you’re offering me...it’s an absolute blessing!”
~ Becky R.
"Working with Deanna feels like following a pathfinder into territory she knows well and will lead me safely through."

This educational guide is for you to navigate
the situations you may experience with serious illness
and the dying of people you love and care about
over the years.
When we learn even one thing or have one shift in perspective, it changes everything.
Here are just a few things people say they receive from this program:
- A lessening of anxiety and fear
- Real confidence in knowing what to do.
- A more graceful presence and ways of being during the dying time.
- Skills that you can use.
- Personal journey with your own history and healing.
- Understanding of how to trust your own wisdom.
- Tools you can use.
- Personal boundary creation to care for yourself.
- Comprehensive end-of-life education and guidance you cannot get anywhere unless you have worked years in hospice.

"My hope is you have the best dying experience possible, free of anxiety and suffering. I want you to have access to the best care possible and often you have to make the effort to find it--but you need to know where to look. If every family had a hospice nurse for a daughter, there would be so many less issues going on during the dying time! My family has that and I want yours to have the next best thing--this program. There are a myriad of things to consider and plan for and that is why I brought everything I could think of, ALL in one place."
